Microsoft rimuove l'Autorun Windows Vista, XP, 2000…Era Ora

February 9th, 2011 No comments

Last night, the Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has distributed a security fix which disables the Autorun USB drives and other removable media in Windows Vista, XP and 2000 E Server 2008 and 2003. In Windows 7 The default is disabled, so this was done only for the older operating systems.

This marks the end of an era, at least as far as the worm Conficker. Historically, The easiest way to infect a machine was to create or modify the Autorun.inf file in the root directory of the removable disk, so the virus would be executed automatically after you insert your USB stick. As you can imagine, this was an attack very easy to fill to the mark, and incredibly effective.

Because Microsoft says it still has not seen a malware attack that uses a CD or DVD, AutoPlay will continue to work with the CD / DVD.

Mahhh!!! In my opinion this should be turned off by default because surely soon come a malware that exploit the capabilities, What do you say?

The 10 of the best things Microsoft 2010, perhaps !!

December 2nd, 2010 No comments

In the redmondmag.com Doug Barney lists according to him the 10 the best things that Microsoft has made in 2010. Here's my opinion:

1. Cloud
The company has released its SQL Windows Azure and Azure Cloud Platform as a Service (PAAS) in February and in October announced a path that promises to enrich the offer in the coming years in support of services cloud Hybrid.

In my opinion, will have little success, particularly in Italy where we are very provincial, and we want to check first hand data on our computers and then Amazon and Google are forward 10 years in the cloud.

2. Windows Phone 7
And’ released the new operating system for phones and smartphones but some bad selling a few models. Android and iPhone models with quantity and quality are unattainable for now, we'll see 6 months but I see the hard.

3. IE 9 Beta
Installed on my PC with Windows 7 has planted everything and I had to uninstall it.

4. SharePoint 2010
In May, Microsoft has launched SharePoint 2010 with some significant new developments: Support for enterprise search, centralized administration, digital asset management and business connectivity services. I still have not met a company that had need of this product. Finally, there are thousands of open source software that do the same thing and better.

5. SQL Server 2008 R2
As well as issuing SQL Server 2008 R2 has released version with the Parallel Data Warehouse Edition (code-named “Madison”) based product that allows massive parallel processing that Microsoft has acquired 2 years ago by DATAllegro Inc. This solution is the new server hardware HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance.

Surely by now SQL Server has become a product for enterprise-class capabilities and power but there is also PostgreSQL which has the same features and is open source.

6. Lync Server 2010
Microsoft has released its successor to Office Communications Server 2007, Lync Server 2010, offering the first viable alternative to PBX. Microsoft wants to be a major player in the telecommunications market in the office.

7. Visual Studio 2010
Launched in April, the popular IDE received a major facelift with substantial improvements in visual editing, editor of a new code, extended language support and the ability to parallel programming. And ‘also optimized for SharePoint development and on the cloud.

Visual Studio that I use every day can not make any criticism and is certainly the outstanding miogliore IDE.

8. Windows Intune
Microsoft has released two beta versions of this tool cloud-based systems management. When will be available next year, Windows Intune allow IT departments to manage medium-sized updates, centralizing malware protection, perform proactive monitoring and inventory.

Perhaps best of all, in $ 11 PC per month subscription includes upgrade rights to Windows 7 Enterprise and the option to purchase the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for a further $ 1 per PC per month. As an added bonus, Microsoft has released a free version of Microsoft Security Essentials for Small Enterprises.

Centralizing the updates in a corporate network is very convenient now that came out was a product of its kind.

9. Bing
Microsoft has completed the integration with Yahoo! (to replace the Yahoo search engine! with Bing) United States and Canada in August. He also integrated advertising platform in order to have a platform to work. Bing continues to gain, but is still overshadowed by Google.

Bing also in Europe sucks because its results are worth compared to Google.

10. Office per Mac 2011
Often overlooked Mac users finally have an improved version of Office. Worthy of note is the inclusion of an Outlook client for Mac. I do not care because I do not use Windows only use MAC and Linux.

You think that?

Microsoft Windows: discovery of a dangerous flaw

November 26th, 2010 No comments

New zero-day type of threat to the security of Microsoft operating systems. The Patch Tuesday of 14 December is too far?

The attacks targeted at the core Microsoft continues unabated. After returning to the scene of the insidious and invisible botnet Alureon, that targets the poor kernel, reported is now a worrying new flaw in Windows XP win32k.sys file, Vista e Seven, even in the versions 64 bit.

Even in this case we speak of course of a vulnerability rated Critical, exploited to circumvent the protection User Account Control and run malicious code with the privileges of the kernel mode, even on non-administrative accounts. Again, PatchGuard is a bystander.

Apparently, All input comes from an incorrect interpretation of an API (NtGdiEnableEUDC) that triggers a stack overflow. During this jam memory is corrupt the return address stored on the stack, then a hacker could easily override the instructions that address to divert at will.

The first to publish the exploit online, also reported by security company Prevx, was a Chinese website. Until now, however, it seems that no cracker has yet tried to exploit the young 0-Day. It is hoped that the Redmond company systems to the problem, with a temporary workaround or patch out of a super-program.

What say we all go on Linux?
